Overview

The 3-day trek to Chandrakhani Pass is best suited for beginner trekkers, and is one of the most popular treks in the Kullu-Manali region. The trek begins in Rumsu and takes you to the Chandrakhani Pass via Naya Tapru. The trail goes through dense forests of pine, fir, oak and chestnut, and over some lush meadows to reach the pass which is located at an altitude of 12,008 feet. From the summit, you are treated to the brilliant views of the Deo Tibba Peak, and Pir Panjal and Parvati mountain ranges. This trek offers a perfect glimpse of the wonderful landscape of Himachal Pradesh.

Day 1: Naggar/Naya-Tapru
Naggar/Naya-Tapru
Report to the Naggar bus stand at 08:00 hrs, where you will be greeted by the tour operators and begin your drive to Rumsu. From Rumsu, you will set out on a short trek to Naya Tapru which is 4 kms away. You will reach there by afternoon and spend the day relaxing at the campsite. Overnight in tents at Naya Tapru Campsite.Overnight in tents at Naya Tapru campsite.Today's meal package includes lunch and dinner. Packed lunch will be served en route to Naya Tapru, and dinner will be served at the Naya Tapru campsite. | Sleeping bags and mattresses will be served for the night

Day 2: Naya-tapru to Chanderkhani summit and back to Naya-Tapru
After breakfast, all the trekkers will start their trek to Chandrakhani Pass with their packed lunch. We will start the trek early by 6 AM. The trek route has a moderate ascend and takes around 4 hours to reach Chandrakhani Pass. The highest point of the pass is 3,660 meters. Just adjacent to the Chandrakhani Pass lies Dhana Kunnu Pass. The entire place is associated with the famous Jamdagini Rishi, one of the seven saptrishi. We will then start our descend from Chandrakhani and will camp at Naya Tapru. The descend is easy and takes around 2 hours. Overnight stay in tents at camp site.

Day 3 : Naya-tapru to Rumsu and Naggar
After the breakfast, all the participants will start their descend for Rumsu base camp. The descend route is the same as the ascend one and takes around 4 hours. Lunch at Sterling while descending. Certificate distribution and departure for Naggar .

What is the best time to visit ?
There are two best seasons to do the Chanderkhani Pass trek.
First is between May To July.
Second is between August-October.

In May the route from camp till Chaklani Camp is completely covered in snow. Here you walk right on top of a stream, covered with a thick layer of snow and ice and you can hear the sound of stream gushing down beneath your feet. There are chances that you witness snowfall while crossing the pass.?

While in Aug-Sept you will get no snow but more of streams to cross through and the landscape will be lush green and full of flowers in Aug-Sept. During this period, trekkers can enjoy the clear views of snow-capped mountains.
What is the average temperature ?
The average temperature in the daytime will be 12°C to 18°C and in night it could be 0°C to 4°C.
One must bring enough pair of clothes and best-quality trekking boots (Water proof) to cover the whole trek carefully and does not face any difficulties due to cold.
What level of fitness is required ?
Preparing yourself well before coming for and Himalayan trek is really important. Sar pass is easy-moderate trek and requires basic level of fitness.
Basic physical fitness you can achieve by routinely doing a 20-30 min cardio exercises like running, skipping, crunches, squats. Work on your calf muscles, knees and thighs.
Apart from basic physical fitness you need to be properly acclimatized before starting the trek so keep you body well hydrated and rest enough after reaching the base camp.
